The Packaging Council of Singapore (PCS) was founded in 1975 under the
umbrella of the Singapore Manufacturers Association, now known as the
Singapore Manufacturers’ Federation and attained the status of National
Industry Club in 1986. In 1981, PCS became a full member of the Asian
Packaging Federation (APF), a non-profit organisation that groups
packaging industry associations and institutes from various countries
in the Asia-Pacific region. Through its membership with the APF, the
PCS is also affiliated to the World Packaging Organisation (WPO).
Functions:
-
To be the representative voice of the packaging industry, its suppliers
and customers on issues where collective representation is effective
and desirable.

To conduct and promote packaging seminars, conferences and exhibitions
aimed at promoting excellence in packaging and keeping members informed
of the latest trends and technology available.

To represent the industry’s views in the environmental debate
concerning the packaging industry, particularly in the areas of waste
minimisation, recycling and resource conservation.

To actively promote the benefits of packaging to govt. bodies & the
general public.

To establish and maintain ties with other packaging associations
internationally for the purpose of networking and the exchange of
technical and other useful information.

To promote Singapore packaging industry both at home and abroad by
organizing trade missions and participating in overseas exhibition.

To assist industry by identifying critical issues affecting business of
members through feedback and research and present these issues to
relevant government authorities and other associations for
documentation and resolution
Objectives:
-
To be the voice of the packaging industry in Singapore and act as a
catalyst to bring about growth and development in the packaging
industry.

To forge closer interactions and co-operation with local and foreign
packaging and packaging related organization/ association.
-
To represent the industry's view in environmental issues concerning the
packaging industry, particularly in the wastes minimization, recycling
and resource conservation.
-
To create awareness and support effort to ensure product quality,
environment protection and consumer satisfaction.

To conduct and promote packaging related seminars, conferences and
exhibitions aimed at promoting excellence in packaging and keeping
members informed of the latest trends and technology in the packaging
industry.

To organise regular dialogue sessions with other organisations,
government and quasi-government bodies as well as update members of
dialogue outcomes.
Activities:

Promoting exhibitions and seminars/ workshops within the packaging
industry in the region.

Providing training in the form of seminars, workshops and presentations.
-
Discussing through appointed representatives' views on packaging
standards with the Singapore Productivity and Standards Board (PSB).

Producing regularly the only packaging directory in Singapore.

Conducting research on the packaging industry in Singapore.
-
Collecting packaging related publications for the benefits of the
industry.

Providing regular networking sessions for members of the Council.

Acting as an useful information source and process enquiries on the
packaging Industry in Singapore.

Organising packaging award at a national level (Singapore Star Award).
