Mr Akira Shirakura worked as a Scientist and project manager at
Research and Development Department of Kirin Brewery Company for 30
years. His fields of research and development were plastic packaging,
including bio-based polymers, barrier improvement of plastics, and
sustainable material research.
After early retirement from Kirin, he opened and now runs his own consulting engineer’s office as a professional engineer. He also assists Japan Packaging Institute as a technical adviser, supporting its international activities, and holds a position of Secretary of ISO/TC122 (Packaging).
In addition, Mr Shirakura is an executive adviser of Patent Firm I`LL, functioning as a licensed patent attorney for international application and licensing. His areas of expertise include new materials, barrier plastics, food packaging design, logistics and sustainable development (social responsibility).
Mr Shirakura graduated from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1974 with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering. He also holds a M.S. degree in Packaging from Michigan State University.
